How Do You Fix iTunes Error 1013?

Unfortunately, it seems as though every time we have an iOS update there is a new error message associated with iTunes that has to be corrected. One of the recent errors to emerge in the iTunes space is iTunes Error 1013 that has been seen when updating the iPhone 4 to iOS 4.2.1. If you are using a jailbroken phone, these steps will upgrade the baseband of your phone to the latest version which may or may not pose problems for you based on your particular setup on the iPhone 4.

Steps to Fix iTunes Error 1013 in Windows

Step 1 – Select the “Start” and “Programs” menu options followed by clicking the “Accessories” sub-menu.

Step 2 – Open “WordPad” and then select the “File” and “Open” menu buttons.

Step 3 – Use the file chooser to located the “Windows,” “System32,” “Drives,” and “Etc” directory.

Step 4 – Toggle the “Files of Type” menu option to “All Documents” and open the “Hosts” file.

Step 5 – Remove “gs.apple.com” from the file and save the “Hosts” file.

Step 6 – Connect your iPhone to your computer and conduct a device restore which will correct the error.

Steps to Fix iTunes Error 1013 in OS X

Step 1 – Open the “Applications” and “Utilities” folders.

Step 2 – Run the “Terminal” application on OS X.

Step 3 – Enter “sudo nano /etc/hosts” followed by clicking the “Return” key.

Step 4 – Input the administrator password for your comptuer and then located the “gs.apple.com” entry(ies) in the Hosts file.

Step 5 – Comment out the line(s) with the gs.apple.com entries by inserting a “#” symbol in the front of each line.

Step 6 – Press “CTRL” and “O” simultaneously to save the file.

Step 7 – Exit the editor by pressing “CTRL” and “X” simultaneously.

Step 8 – Conduct a full restore of your iPhone 4 to finish correcting iTunes error 1013.
