Key loggers have been around for a number of years. They are designed to monitor activity on a computer and record it without the knowledge of the end-user. Although they are most commonly associated with computer spyware, there are a number of applications designed for parental or corporate monitoring of children and employees respectively that make use of key logging applications. Until now, there has not bee an iPhone KeyLogger available to use for monitoring of your child’s iPhone usage. The iKeyGuard application allows key logging functionality to be performed on both the iPhone and other iDevices produced by Apple.

How Does iKeyGuard Work?

The iKeyGuard app takes what has been discovered from Windows OS keyloggers over the past decade+ and applies it to the iOS environment. The application is optimized to reduced the overall CPU power usage and is designed to not display in the list of running applications on the iPhone or iPad to avoid detection by the user. The program is configurable and will send logs via email at intervals that you define. It will work on any jailpbroken iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad. The company who produces the application permits use on multiple devices with a single license.

Is iKeyGuard Legal?

It depends on the local law and how you apply the application. Tracking others with their consent is generally considered legal in most countries and can be useful at the company or corporate level. The usage of the application will also play a significant role in determining if your use of the program is considered within the bounds of the law in your area.

What Are the Dangers of an iPhone KeyLogger?

Similar to the dangers of a keystroke logger on a laptop or desktop computer, the iPhone KeyLogger could be used by others for nefarious means. If deployed without the knowledge or consent to your iPhone, then your private information to include sensitive monetary or private SMS texts and emails will be sent to a third party that could use them for illicit means. At the minimum, your privacy is at risk and you can be embarrassed. At the other end of the spectrum, you could lose significant amounts of money and potentially have your identity stolen.

How Do You Install iKeyGuard?

Step 1 – Jailbreak the iPhone if not done so already.

Step 2 – Open Cydia and then click on the search menu tab.

Step 3 – Locate the “Key Logger iKeyGuard” application and install it.

Step 4 – Open the Safari browser on your iDevice and then enter “:4444” or “http://localhost:4444” on the device.

The device does need to be jailbroken to use the app which will cost you $9.99 USD at the time of this writing. Data uploads have been tested to work with the majority of email clients with success being found at most except for Hotmail.
