One of the processes running on the task manager which may use up a significant amount of resources is the SearchIndexer.exe process. The good news for you is that you can stop the process from occurring, but it is not recommended. Especially with Windows 7, you shouldn’t disable the function that bears the SearchIndexer.exe process. This process is pretty much the engine that runs many of the mini issues in the back-end of your Windows 7 platform. However, if you are determined to get rid of this RAM bearing process, keep reading.
What Does SearchIndexer.exe Do?
As you may know, Windows has its own search function. There is a service in place for all Windows computers which is in charge of indexing files along with folders and information. The process is what powers the whole Windows search system. Without SearchIndexer.exe, you will not be able to use the built in search engine on your Windows OS. The entire searching infrastructure on the Windows system is controlled through SearchIndexer.exe. There are several search functions on Windows 7, such as the Library search, Menu search and IE search. Disabling the Windows Search Service will affect the entire network. In Windows 7, open your task manager and right click on SearchIndexer.exe and select go to service. This will give you additional details on what is going on in the backend of the system.
Stopping the SearchIndexer.exe Process
If you are sure that you will not need the Windows Search Service, you could disable it from the core. Visit your control panel and select on services. In the services menu, you will notice that there are a number of different services running. Located the term “Windows Search” and stop the process. Alternatively, you could completely remove the service from your computer as well. In order to uninstall the SearchIndexer.exe process, open up control panel and search for windows features. The results should give you a dialog box, and here you select your result. You will see a list of items in the box, so look for Windows Search and tick it off and click on OK. Once you are done, you will need to reboot your computer to save the settings. You should never remove this service from your computer, but if you don’t need it, the best thing to do would be to disable it for the time being.
