The dpupdchk.exe process is commonly seen in the Windows Task Manager, and it does not include a description. If you remove it from the task manager, it will just come back. In place of the description, it will simply say dpupdchk.exe. The process only uses about 4000K in memory, but you may still want to know what this is doing on your computer. The process is in charge of getting updates from Microsoft for the software updates the company pushes to Windows users. Essentially, the process is there to check for updates for the operating system. The updates come from Microsoft IntelliPoint. Now, without any description, how do we know what the program really is?
Knowing Whether dpupdchk.exe is Legitimate
In your computer’s task manager, locate the dpupdchk.exe process. If you can’t find it, simply click on sort by Image Name, and the process will come close to the top. Right click on the dpupdchk.exe process and open the file location to see where it is rooted in. Once you click on the option, it will open the folder in which this process is running from. When it does open, in the browser URL bar, you will notice that it says Microsoft IntelliPoint. It very surprising to see that Microsoft left out this simple description for the process, so we can only hope for a fix in future updates. If you dig deeper into the system registry, you will find out that the actual query it was sending out was for an IntelliPoint Auto Update record.
In your start menu, you may have noticed icons indicating that you can check for updates. This update is made available through the dpupdchk.exe process. As consumers outside the ring of Microsoft programmers, we cannot say for sure as to what it gets updates for. Since we have no idea what this update is goof for, we certainly shouldn’t remove it from the system.
What are the Dangers of Removing dpupdchk.exe?
Removing a piece of Microsoft’s primary process file would cause some major harm to your computer. All primary processes on the Microsoft platform are there for a reason. Without these files, your computer will not be able to start-up as it should. Now, if you are a risk taker and have no worries about the consequences, you can remove it from your system. The simplest way to remove it is by uninstalling the Microsoft IntelliPoint application. Once it is fully removed, simply reboot your computer it the dpupdchk.exe process will be gone.
