In terms of Nero, the file in charge of the processes is located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\NeVideo.ax. Your first step now is to rename the NeVideo.ax to NeVideo.ax.bak. If there is a high-definition version, you will need to do the same, by changing it to NeVideoHD.bak.
Step 3 - When you open your folder, you will see thumbnails for your files. You can try disabling this feature and see if that helps with anything. This is done by going into “organize” and file properties.
Step 4 – There may be an issue with your current codec settings, so it is best to update to a better version. You can download and install this newer version of the ffdshow codec at http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net.
Step 5 - Lastly, you can certainly try uninstalling Nero or DivX and see if it helps. Over ninety percent of users with this problem have said this has helped. So, you can certainly uninstall the program, reboot the system and complete a fresh new install. If the error still exists, consider installing the Vista Codec Package. This final step should give you a clear folder view, with no error suggesting that “COM Surrogate Has Stopped Working”.
