A lot of Windows users get confused on what processes are legitimate and which are not when viewing the processes running in the Windows Task Manger. I’ve found that the problem gets compounded further as the older generation such as my parents start to get more and more computer literate. One of those processes is ipoint.exe. This process belongs to the Microsoft IntelliPoint software program which is installed in you are using a Microsoft mouse to enhance the functionality of “mousing” or mouse capabilities on your computer.
Ipoint.exe Background Information
The ipoint.exe process is the core program for the IntelliPoint software application. The process should be running on your computer if you have the software installed (*note that you may not know this software is installed if you don’t pay attention to this level of detail). The program should not be deleted or removed if installed in the original location on your computer.

The ipoint.exe process will normally be installed in the “Microsoft IntelliPoint” sub-directory of the “Program Files” folder on a computer running the Windows OS. Many times this will be directly under the “C” drive.

How to Uninstall Ipoint.exe
Ipoint.exe and the entire IntelliPoint software package can be uninstalled using the “Add/Remove Programs” feature in the Windows Control Panel. If the software is uninstalled, then the funcationality of the Microsoft mouse will be degraded.
