What is Error Code 1?

The Windows Error Code 1 is thrown when your computer has corrupted or outdated drivers. The error commonly occurs on computers with outdated versions of the Windows Operating System (OS) installed or conversely, after a Windows OS update when other hardware drivers are not configured to appropriately support the latest version of the OS.

When your computer throws error code 1, it will display the following message on the computer screen:
“This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)”

The driver may be resident on your computer already. If it is not, then you will have to download the most up-to-date driver from the device manufacturer and install on your computer. You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s Web site.

Steps to Fix Windows Error Code 1

Step 1 – Start your computer in normal mode and right-click “My Computer” on your computer’s desktop.
Step 2 – Left click the “Properties” menu option and click the “Hardware” menu tab followed by choosing the “Device Manager.”
Step 3 – Locate the device type that is throwing error code 1 on your computer and double-click
Then, double-click the specific device type that has the problem. You should observe a red exclamation point next to the device if it is known to your computer. If unknown, there will be a yellow question mark displayed.
Step 4 – Right click the specific device showing the visual error code and then select the “Properties” menu option. The error code will be displayed in the “Device Status” dialog box for the device.
Step 5 – Click the “General” menu tab on the properties box and then select the “Troubleshoot” menu option (if available) to start the Windows Troubleshooting Wizard which will hopefully provide a solution for you.
Step 6 -  If the Troubleshooting Wizard is not available or fails to solve Windows Error Code 1,visit the manufacturer’s website and download then install the most recent driver for the component throwing the error. Restart your computer and Error Code 1 will be corrected.
