Windows error code 10 is thrown in the Windows Device manager when a computer running Windows Service Pack 2 is not correctly connected to a device such as a digital video (DV) camera or computer hard drive (external). These devices area also referred to as 1394 devices which are typically connected to the computer through a firewire or USB cable.
What Error Code is Displayed with Error Code 10?
When your computer throws error code 10, it will display the following message on the computer screen:
“The device cannot start. (Code 10)”
How Do You Fix Windows Error Code 10?
Step 1 – Right-click “My Computer” on your computer’s desktop.
Step 2 – Left click the “Properties” menu option and click the “Hardware” menu tab followed by choosing the “Device Manager” and then locate the externally connected device that is throwing Windows error code 10 on your computer.
Step 3 – Locate the device type that is throwing error code 10 on your computer and double-click the device type icon followed by the device itself.
Step 4 – Right click the specific device showing the visual error code and then select the “Properties” menu option. Then, choose the “Driver” menu tab followed by the “Update Driver” menu option to run the Windows Hardware Update Wizard to update the device driver.
Step 5 – If Windows asks you for the location or file path for the driver, you will need to visit the manufacturer’s website and both download and install the latest device driver for the hardware followed by restarting your computer to fix error code 10.
